It’s hard to find solutions for this online when the word “zoom” is used both as a verb and a proper noun. With luck, this tip will find its way to those who need it nonetheless.
Settings in Two Places
Just because you can see your shared screen enlarging as you present your awesome content definitely does not mean that those watching can see anything getting bigger. The trick is to enable two settings: In the macOS, a setting that presents the magnified screen to the Zoom Workplace app and, in Zoom Workplace, a setting that accepts what the Mac is offering.
macOS Settings

The deeply buried Show zoomed image while screen sharing setting
In System Settings, head to Accessibility.
Near the top in the Vision settings, click Zoom
For Zoom style, choose Full Screen (the other choices don’t work)
Just under that setting, click Advanced
Here, you’ll find the switch to Show zoomed image while screen sharing. enable it
Zoom Workplace App Settings

The Zoom Workplace setting to use what your Mac is serving
In Zoom Workplace, got to Settings
Choose the Share Screen settings, then
Click Advanced
Here, you can find and enable Use Mac System Picker for screen sharing
Better Enlarged View
During classes, especially when we need to show a small detail in a software interface, the ability to draw attention to and enlarge that detail is important to us. Until we found this combination of settings, we relied on utilities that enlarged only a small portion of the screen (too small, in our opinion).
Since our students report that has been very useful, we continue to enjoy using Mouseposé from Boinx Software to highlight the area around the cursor/mouse pointer. I hope these tips help our fellow Mac-using instructors and presenters.
