Online with an In-Person Vibe
We're going online and closing our Seattle classroom
We’ve got big news. We've decided to close our Seattle classroom at the end of 2024. But we're not going away! We've loved hosting you in our classroom these last 19 years, and we're excited to keep doing what we love, just in a different way. We are committed to making our online courses as engaging and interactive as ever.
Starting in 2020, like so many others, we began providing online learning. First, in the form of video-on-demand recorded courses. Then, we expanded to offer live, interactive sessions via Zoom, allowing us to "meet" people from around the world. Now, online has become the primary way we share our expertise.
We have a few more in-person classes on our November and December calendar, including our newest class, Proposal Management Essentials. There are also in-person opportunities to learn Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom and our Graphic Design Basics class. If you can't join us face-to-face before the end of the year, all of these will continue in our virtual classroom in 2025 and beyond. Our website will be updated fully at the end of the year to reflect the changes.
We're so grateful to Lou Cuevas for the almost 19 years we've enjoyed in our lovely space in his Ballard building. We hope you join us for a class soon, in-person or online.
When a Door Closes…Classroom Equipment Sale
Since our classes will be online, the classroom computers, chairs, and more will need new homes.
Use the link below to see what's available. If you would like to reserve items, let us know and we'll send you a payment link. Items will be available for pick-up between December 19 and 22 (after our last in-person class).
An Illustrator 2025 Tip
With Adobe Illustrator's 2025 release, a few new features have appeared. One that we think has some utility is the Objects on Path tool. It makes it relatively easy to distribute objects evenly (or chaotically) along any open or closed path.
Simply:
Select the objects you want to attach to a path
Invoke the Objects on Path tool (near the bottom of the Tools panel)
Then click on the path those objects should run along.
Then you can use the onscreen controls to move or rotate all the objects and/or adjust their spacing. You may also change which part of the objects connect to the path. Finally, for now, you can move any one object along the path, add more shapes or detach shapes from the path.
We hope this new tool makes some of your vector art projects a little easier. In the example here, we imagined an archway with mysterious symbols adorning it.
After every class, we ask students to provide feedback. We’re grateful for the suggestions, humor, and words of encouragement we’ve received.
We take your suggestions seriously, which is one of the reasons why we're offering multi-session and weekend classes now. If you have suggestions, please let us know.
If you have the time and inclination (and a Google account), you can share your thoughts about Luminous Works with the world, too.
